Oribe-yaki was founded by Furuta Oribe, a celebrated Japanese tea master, a disciple of Sen no Rikyu, in the year of 1605. He was also an excellent military commander serving for Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. His uninhibited and rebellious spirit is not only reflected in its originality of Oribe-yaki but also influenced industrial and cultural revolutions in Momoyma period. This Oribe-ism is the ley line of Japanese creativity and originality, still relevant in today’s art and cultures in Japan.
